Biography

Patricia Duff is a Professor and Distinguished University Scholar at the University of British Columbia, specializing in Language and Literacy Education. Her extensive scholarly work focuses on applied linguistics, particularly in the areas of language socialization in bilingual and multilingual settings. She utilizes qualitative research methods, including case studies and ethnography, to examine the teaching and learning of languages like English and Mandarin within transnational contexts. Duff has co-founded and leads the Centre for Research on Chinese Language Literacy Education, where she engages with issues related to the integration of second-language learners into schools and society.
