Biography

Patrick Lavoie is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Montreal and holds the Canada Research Chair on nursing decision-making learning. He is also a researcher at the Research Centre of the Montreal Heart Institute. His research focuses on nursing education aimed at developing clinical judgment and decision-making in complex contexts, particularly in critical care. He is interested in pedagogical innovation, clinical simulation, experiential learning, and real situation reasoning analysis using technologies such as eye-tracking. His interests also include professional autonomy, knowledge mobilization, and capability development. Methodologically, he has expertise in mixed-method research, qualitative methodologies, evaluative research, and knowledge synthesis. He leads the FUTUR team, which is funded by the Quebec Research Funds (FRQ) and focuses on professionalization and learning in university and professional training contexts. He is also responsible for the Lavoie Lab, a nursing research laboratory, and is an active member of various national and international research networks.
