Biography

Patrick Moore is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. His main area of interest is linguistic anthropology, with a strong focus on the documentation and revitalization of First Nations languages. Moore has worked extensively with Dene (Athabaskan) languages and communities, leading major language documentation projects, notably funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. His doctoral research involved documenting and analyzing the Kaska language and its historical narratives. At UBC, he is involved in various initiatives aimed at supporting language and cultural revitalization projects, particularly with the Dene Tha and Kaska communities in northern Alberta and British Columbia. Moore's research interests include First Nations languages, literacy, orality, oral traditions, codeswitching, gender, and Indigenous activism. He continues to contribute to curriculum development and teaching materials that support Indigenous language education.
