Dr. Paul Ramchandani

Biography

Paul Ramchandani is the LEGO Professor of Play and Education within the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge, UK. He directs the PEDAL Research Centre, leading a team focused on the crucial role of play in early children's development. A qualified Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the UK National Health Service, he has extensive training in developmental psychopathology and public health. He previously held a professorship in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at Imperial College London. His research interests include early child development, parental play and its impact on mental health, and innovative psychological interventions. Throughout his career, he has collaborated closely with local authorities, educators, and healthcare professionals, supported by grants from organizations such as the LEGO Foundation and the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). His work aims to translate research findings into improvements in the lives of children and families. Ramchandani has supervised numerous PhD students and has extensive experience in teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He continues to engage in various projects aimed at enhancing children's mental health through play.
