Biography

Pauline Leonard is the Associate Dean of Research and Enterprise at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Southampton. She is a Professor of Sociology and a director of the Web Science Institute. As a founding member of the Work Futures Research Centre, she holds esteemed positions as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Her primary research interests revolve around diversity and the changing nature of work, focusing on the impacts of organizational and technological change on working lives and career trajectories, while intersecting aspects of gender, race, age, and social background. She investigates issues in both national and international contexts, particularly skilled migration and matters relating to whiteness. Currently, she is completing several projects funded by UK Research and Innovation, notably on Trustworthy Autonomous Systems and trustworthy human-robot teams. Her work examines how trust is constructed in automated systems and within work teams, contributing significantly to contemporary discussions about the future of work and the implications of technology on social structures.
