Biography

Peggy Nicholson joined the Duke University School of Law faculty in 2020 as a Clinical Professor and Supervising Attorney in the Children’s Law Clinic. In this role, she lectures and works closely with law students to represent children and families in matters related to special education, school discipline, and public benefits. Prior to joining Duke Law, Nicholson served as the director of the Youth Justice Project at the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, advocating for legal and policy solutions to address North Carolina’s school-to-prison pipeline. She has a background in public interest law through her work at Legal Aid of North Carolina, where she provided legal advice and representation in educational cases for hundreds of low-income students and families across the state. Nicholson has extensive experience representing children and families in administrative hearings and state and federal court, and she has provided continuing education to attorneys, judges, and social workers on various educational matters, including special education, school discipline, and racial equity.
