Dr. Petra Wieler

Biography

Petra Wieler is a professor at the Freie Universität Berlin in the Department of Education and Psychology, specializing in Didactics of German and Linguistic Cultural Education. She obtained her PhD at RWTH Aachen University with a dissertation focused on linguistic action in literature classes as a didactic problem. She has held various academic positions, including lecturing at the University of Cologne, the Dutch universities of Utrecht and Groningen, as well as a professorship at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg. Her research interests include reading and media socialization, linguistic enculturation, and literary learning. She has published extensively in the field, including books, edited volumes, and articles in academic journals, contributing significantly to the fields of literacy and cultural identity among multilingual children. Additionally, she has led projects aimed at inter-cultural understanding and mentorship programs for students with migration backgrounds.
