Philipp Kukura received his degree in Chemistry from St Hugh’s College, Oxford in 2002 and obtained his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley under the supervision of Prof. Rich Mathies, focusing on ultrafast spectroscopy. He then moved to ETH Zurich to work with Prof. Vahid Sandoghdar on nano-optics. After returning to Oxford in 2010, he became a Tutorial Fellow at Exeter College and was promoted to Full Professor in 2016. His awards include the Royal Society of Chemistry's Harrison-Meldola Award in 2011 and Marlow Award in 2015, the European Biophysical Society Association's Young Investigator Medal in 2017, and the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award in 2018, among others. Kukura has also served as a founder and non-executive director of Refeyn Ltd from 2018 to 2020. His research interests include the development of new optical methods and applications in biophysical chemistry and molecular biophysics, with a focus on mass photometry and light-scattering-based detection to monitor and quantify biomolecular processes.
