Biography

Philipp Masur is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He is the Managing Director of the Digital Media and Behavior Lab and chairs the Research Ethics Review Committee at the Faculty of Social Sciences. His academic journey includes a PhD in social sciences from the University of Hohenheim in 2018, along with studies in communication science, economic sciences, and philosophy at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and Macquarie University in Sydney. Prior to his current role, he worked in the Departments of Communication at the University of Hohenheim and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and served as a visiting scholar at Cornell University. His research focuses on various aspects of media psychology, including social norms, social influence, media literacy, and computer-mediated communication. He has been recognized for his research contributions and has won prestigious awards such as the ICA Top Faculty Paper Award. His ongoing NWO-VENI project investigates online behavioral contagion and its implications for public health. Masur has also made significant contributions through lectures and presentations in his field, demonstrating a strong commitment to his educational and research pursuits.
