Dr. Rahul Telang

Biography

Rahul Telang is a Trustee Professor and Ph.D. Program Chair at Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on the impact of digital distribution platforms on traditional industries such as music, movies, and books, particularly examining issues related to online piracy. He investigates the role of social networks in music diffusion and technology adoption, as well as employee job search behaviors. His prior work highlights the challenges of interacting across multiple platforms, including web portals and telephony customer service. Telang has been recognized with a Sloan Foundation Industry Study fellowship and serves as co-director of the Digital Media Research Center at Heinz College. His work is extensively funded by industry partners including Google, and he has published in prestigious journals such as Management Science and MIS Quarterly. In addition to his research activities, Telang plays an active role on the editorial board of Management Science and Information Systems Research, and has organized several conferences and workshops. His expertise has been featured in media outlets like The Wall Street Journal and Forbes, where he has provided insights on technical debt and cyber threats.
