Dr. Rangita De Silva De Alwis

Biography

Rangita de Silva de Alwis is a globally recognized expert in international women's rights, serving as the Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and Associate Dean of International Affairs. She is a member of the treaty body for the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and has held significant leadership roles, including Chair of the Working Group on Individual Petitions. Rangita's academic journey includes earning her SJD, LLM, and LLB from prestigious institutions such as Harvard Law School and the University of Colombo. Throughout her career, she has published extensively in leading law journals and directed initiatives focused on gender justice and human rights, including the Global Women’s Leadership Project. She has lectured at renowned universities including Yale Law School and served various global organizations, including as a Special Advisor to UN Women. Her work encompasses policy development regarding women's access to justice, leading projects aimed at combatting gender-based violence, and transforming business leadership in the gender equity sphere. Rangita's insights and contributions have been recognized with numerous awards and fellowships, cementing her role as a key advocate for women's rights globally.
