Réjean Canac-Marquis is an Associate Professor in the Department of French at Simon Fraser University, appointed in 1998. Initially trained in formal generative linguistics, his research focuses on Language Acquisition, particularly in Canadian French contexts, along with Western French Varieties. He has been a co-researcher on SSHRC Major Collaborative Research Initiative Grants from 1998 to 2009 and has presented at over 50 conferences. Canac-Marquis has published more than 25 papers and edited two books. He served as co-editor of the Canadian Journal of Linguistics from 2004 to 2009 and was a member of the editorial board until 2021. Additionally, he chaired the Department of French from 2008 to 2011 and has held the position of French Graduate Chair. His areas of research interest include Generative Syntax, Morphology and Semantics, and he has studied the French Immersion Corpus in British Columbia as well as varieties of French in Western Canada, including Maillardville and Rivière Rouge.
