Biography

Rena Kornblum is a board-certified dance/movement therapist with over 40 years of professional experience in psychotherapy, specifically expressive arts therapies. She serves as a senior lecturer in the Dance Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she also directs the Dance-Movement Therapy Certificate program. Rena has established the Children Family Program at the Hancock Center for Dance/Movement Therapy and served as its Executive Director for 12 years. She developed the Disarming Playground curriculum aimed at teaching social skills and violence prevention to children, which is currently utilized in Madison public schools. Rena's contributions to the field include not only articles but also her book titled “Disarming Playground: Violence Prevention Movement & Pro-Social Skills,” published in 2003. She has received multiple awards for her teaching and contributions to dance therapy, including the Excellence in Education Award from the American Dance Therapy Association and the Unsung Hero Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Rena travels globally to conduct workshops on utilizing dance/movement therapy for children dealing with trauma, having taught extensively in countries such as Argentina, Korea, and China.
