Dr. Rhonda Rider

Biography

Rhonda Rider is a lecturer in Music at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts specializing in cello performance. As a dedicated cellist, she has been a member of the award-winning Lydian Quartet and the Triple Helix Piano Trio. Rider is a strong advocate for contemporary music, having premiered numerous works by composers such as John Harbison, Lee Hyla, and Yu-Hui Chang. Her passion for music extends beyond traditional venues, as she has led artist residencies at national parks like the Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest. Additionally, she has served as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts and Chamber Music America, and has adjudicated prestigious competitions, including the Fischoff and Stulberg Concert Artists Guild Competitions. Throughout her career, she has performed with various ensembles such as Shelter Music Boston and Radius Ensemble. In the summer months, she participates in teaching and performing at events such as the Green Mountain Music Festival and the International Cello Institute. Rhonda Rider holds degrees from Oberlin and Yale University and has received the Outstanding Teacher of the Year award on multiple occasions at the Boston Conservatory. Her dedication to her craft and her students demonstrates her commitment to excellence in music education.
