Dr. Richard Catrambone

Biography

Richard Catrambone is a Professor in the School of Psychology at Georgia Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1988 and his BA from Grinnell College in 1982. His research interests encompass problem solving, educational psychology, instructional design, educational technology, human-computer interaction, and analogical reasoning. Catrambone's work focuses on creating examples that assist learners in developing meaningful and generalizable solution procedures. He has led a student lab that investigates various domains, including probability, physics, and ballet, utilizing task analysis techniques to identify learning needs and aiding in the construction of teaching materials for computer-based instructional environments. His research also explores the use of technology, such as animations and embodied conversational agents, to enhance learning experiences. Additionally, Catrambone has contributed to notable publications within the field, shedding light on instructional strategies that promote learning and improve task performance.
