Biography

Richard Gray, Jr. is the Deputy Executive Director at the Metropolitan Center for Research Equity and Transformation in Schools at New York University (Metro Center). He provides support and strategic assistance for the Metro Center’s community organizing and engagement programs aimed at school transformation. As a lecturer at Columbia Law School, Richard helps students apply their legal training to foster authentic collaboration between educational institutions and communities. Prior to joining the Metro Center, he led the New York office of Brown University’s Annenberg Institute for School Reform, where he served as the Director of the Community Organizing and Engagement Division. Richard also worked as the Director of National Technical Assistance for New York University’s Institute for Education and Social Policy, and acted as Co-Executive Director of the National Coalition of Advocates for Students, a nationwide network of child advocacy organizations focused on improving access to quality public education for traditionally underserved student populations in public schools. Richard holds a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. from Brown University.
