Dr. Rima Wilkes

Biography

Rima Wilkes is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of British Columbia. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from the University of Toronto and a B.A. in Sociology from Queen's University. Her research interests focus on political sociology, race, ethnicity, and indigeneity. She has explored public opinion on immigration and trust dynamics, drawing from a comprehensive body of work that analyses racial and ethnic inequalities. Notably, her research has contributed to understanding how integration issues affect racial minorities and immigrants in advanced industrial democracies, identifying the pervasive nature of racism and examining media narratives around Indigenous resistance. Her extensive publication history includes influential papers in journals such as the American Sociological Review and International Migration Review. Wilkes is actively involved in research projects that assess the causes and consequences of political and social trust, utilizing quantitative datasets to inform her findings.
