Biography

Robert Murphy is a licensed clinical psychologist and Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. He is focused on child traumatic stress, treatment, prevention, development, and dissemination of evidence-based interventions. Murphy serves as the Executive Director of the Center for Child & Family Health (CCFH), which is a community-university partnership dedicated to research, training, and intervention related to child trauma and maltreatment. His interests include treatment and prevention of child maltreatment and traumatic stress, as well as improving mental health care for military families. He has partnered with the Duke Sanford School of Public Policy and the Center for Child and Family Policy in the active development and evaluation of various programs, including randomized controlled trials and universal nurse home visiting programs. Murphy has contributed significantly to improving access to evidence-based mental health care for youth in foster care and developing trauma-informed child welfare systems throughout his career.
