Biography

Robert Poynton designs and leads sessions for Executive Education leadership programmes at Saïd Business School, employing participative methods grounded in improvisational theatre to create rich learning environments. His embodied and experiential approach engages participants with key themes in leadership, allowing them to effectively respond to complexity and change. Additionally, he incorporates narrative and storytelling into his communication strategies, enhancing sense-making processes. A highly experienced facilitator, Robert has been part of the teaching team for the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme since 2002, and he took on the role of Programme Director in 2018. He has collaborated on custom programmes for clients involved in the Executive MBA Programme and contributed to the Skoll World Forum in 2017. His clientele includes notable organizations such as Chanel, Natura Bissé, BBC, and PwC. He leads creative retreats in Spain, known as ‘Praxis Reading Retreats’ at the Oxford Praxis Forum, which is affiliated with Green Templeton College. In 2020, he co-founded Yellow, an organization focused on creating reflective and regenerative learning spaces for events, initially conducted online and in person. Robert has authored four books exploring the application of improvisational ideas in everyday work and life, including themes like burnout and stress, as well as the 'everyday miracle' of conversation.
