Biography

Robert Sutton is an organizational psychologist and a best-selling author who studies leadership, innovation, organizational change, and workplace dynamics. He has published over 200 articles, chapters, and case studies focusing on how to scale organizations, spread positive practices, and enhance performance and innovation within large organizations. Sutton received his PhD in Organizational Psychology from the University of Michigan and has been a faculty member at Stanford since 1983, serving as Professor of Management Science and Engineering until 2023, when he became Professor Emeritus. He is a co-founder and co-director of the Center for Work, Technology and Organization and the Stanford Technology Ventures Program, as well as a co-founder of the Stanford d.school. As a resident Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Sutton has held advisory roles with McKinsey & Company, Bain & Company, Microsoft, and served as a board member for the Institute for the Future. He has received numerous academic honors and has authored multiple influential books. His insights and research have reached a broad audience through various media outlets and he has delivered keynote speeches in over 20 countries.
