Dr. Roger Roess

Biography

Roger Roess is a Professor Emeritus at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, renowned for his extensive research in transportation engineering. His academic journey began at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1968, followed by a Master of Science in Transportation Planning Engineering in 1969, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Transportation Planning Engineering in 1972. Over the years, Dr. Roess has significantly contributed to the field with numerous journal articles and books, including the notable 'Traffic Engineering' and 'Highway Capacity Manual'. His expertise encompasses highway capacity, traffic control operations, and transportation economics. He has held several leadership roles, including Principal Investigator for major reports benefitting the transportation field. His accolades include the prestigious D. Grant Mickle Award and an Outstanding Service Commendation from the Transportation Research Board. Throughout his career, Dr. Roess has been committed to enhancing engineering education and advancing transportation practices through his research and publications.
