Biography

Rogério Meireles Pinto is a Professor at the University of Michigan School of Social Work, holding the title of University Diversity Social Transformation Professor and Berit Ingersoll-Dayton Collegiate Professor. He was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and utilizes mixed methods and visual performing arts in his community-engaged research. His funded research by the National Institutes of Health explores strategies to improve social health services, particularly in HIV drug-use prevention care and cognitive/behavioral social transformational interventions. Pinto's work is dedicated to helping marginalized groups, particularly racial/ethnic sexual minorities, engage in critical consciousness and social liberation. He has published extensively, with over a hundred peer-reviewed articles and numerous art pieces showcased in juried exhibitions. Reflecting his scholarly and artistic contributions, Pinto's identity as a gender non-conforming, mixed-race Latinx immigrant informs his research and outreach efforts.
