Biography

Russell Johnson is the MSU Foundation Professor of Management at Michigan State University. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Organizational Psychology from the University of Akron in 2006. His research focuses on the roles of self-regulation, motivation, and leadership-based processes that underlie work attitudes and behaviors. He has published over 130 research articles in various peer-reviewed journals including the Academy of Management Journal and the Journal of Applied Psychology. Johnson has served as an associate editor for the Academy of Management Review and the Journal of Applied Psychology and is recognized in popular press outlets like Forbes and the Wall Street Journal. In 2013, he received the Distinguished Early Career Contributions Award from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and in 2018 he was awarded the Cummings Scholarly Achievement Award from the Organizational Behavior Division of the Academy of Management.
