Biography

Ruth is a Senior Research Associate and Deputy Director at the Andrew & Virginia Rudd Research Professional Practice Centre. She received her PhD in Psychology from Cardiff University in 2013 and was awarded the ESRC Future Research Leader Fellowship from 2016 to 2019 at the University of Sussex. Ruth's primary research interests focus on several strands: the examination of risk and resilience-based processes underlying childhood and adolescent psychopathology, specifically depression and disruptive behavior disorders; the interplay of genetic factors and family and school environmental factors examining precursors to processes that underlie individual differences in children’s psychopathology and related outcomes; and examining the interplay of mental health with physical health outcomes throughout childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood. She employs advanced statistical methods, longitudinal/cohort population studies, and genetically informative research designs to understand mechanisms explaining the development of psychopathology and adverse outcomes, which inform intervention and prevention strategies.
