Biography

Ryan Pakebusch is a lecturer in Education Studies, serving as the Associate Director of the Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) program. With a robust background as a researcher and practitioner, his primary focuses encompass international education policy, global higher education, teacher professional development, and educational equity and access. Ryan teaches the seminar EDST 245, which involves designing and evaluating educational interventions in the Global South. Additionally, he is involved in the Training and Mentorship sub-Committee of the Africa-wide HALI Access Network, which aims to train educators to support students applying to global universities. He is also a member of a Yale-wide working committee, Eyes, which focuses on gender equity in Africa. Prior to his tenure at Yale, Ryan spent five years in East Africa, specifically Somaliland and Kenya, where he worked as a classroom teacher in subjects such as English, History, Global Politics, and Visual Arts, and served as a college counselor and researcher for NGOs and foreign governments. His writings on education have been published by notable organizations including UNESCO, the Center for Global Development, and the Harvard University Institute for State Effectiveness. Previously, he taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
