Ryan Shaw is an associate professor of music education at Michigan State University’s College of Music, where he teaches courses such as Introduction to Music Education, Teaching Instrumental Music, and Woodwind/Brass Methods, along with a variety of graduate-level courses. Previously, he served as the area head of music education at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. During his time at Capital, Shaw taught introductory methods courses and coordinated aspects of the undergraduate music education summer master's programs focused on instrumental tracks. In addition to his college teaching experience, Shaw has taught middle and high school band in various Michigan communities, including Berkley and Cedar Springs. He has presented research at several significant conferences and has published work in several reputable journals. Shaw is actively engaged in professional organizations, serving as an associate editor for the Music Educators Journal and on the editorial board of the Journal of Research in Music Education.
