Biography

Sandra Springer is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Texas at Austin. With over 21 years of experience in bilingual education at the elementary and middle school levels, she has modeled various bilingual education frameworks, including developmental and dual language programs. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Springer has been an active advocate for bilingual education, serving on committees at the district level and in leadership roles such as parliamentarian and vice president of the Austin Area Association of Bilingual Educators (AAABE). She has provided testimony on behalf of teacher unions at the national level and has engaged with U.S. legislators and leaders in Washington, D.C. Her recognition in the field includes being a semifinalist for 'Teacher of the Year' at the district level, named the Austin Bilingual Teacher of the Year by the Austin Area Association of Bilingual Education, and runner-up for Texas Bilingual Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of Bilingual Education. Springer also serves as a cooperating teacher at the University of Texas, mentoring students during their practicum.
