Sangram Majumdar’s paintings embrace thematic, formal, and symbolic possibilities, utilizing gestures and fragments to subvert the idea of a singular narrative. He has exhibited in several notable solo venues, including Nathalie Karg Gallery in New York, Mirchandani Steinruecke in Mumbai, Geary Contemporary in New York, Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects in New York, and Asia Society Texas Center in Houston. His selected group exhibitions have taken place at Klaus von Nichtssagend in New York, Nathalie Karg Gallery in New York, Shoshana Wayne Gallery in Los Angeles, Landing Gallery in Los Angeles, and James Cohan Gallery in New York. Majumdar has received multiple awards, including the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Individual Support Grant and the New York Foundation for the Arts Grant in Painting. He also garnered the Purchase Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Marie Walsh Sharpe Studio Space grant in Brooklyn. In 2003, he became a full-time faculty member at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), where he received several Faculty Research Grants and the MICA Trustees Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009. In 2019, he was inducted into the National Academy of Design. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor in Painting and Drawing at the University of Washington, where he has received several institutional awards, including the Royalty Research Fund, Kreilsheimer Arts Endowment, and Jones Large Grant.
