Biography

Sara Edge is an Associate Professor in the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences at the University of Guelph. As a community-engaged, interdisciplinary researcher, her work focuses on health geography and environmental justice, particularly in the context of food systems. In September 2024, she became the Arrell Chair in Food, Policy & Society, where she critically addresses issues related to food insecurity and food justice. Edge's research highlights the cascading crises of climate change, pandemic challenges, and geopolitical conflicts that undermine food systems and access. She collaborates with community groups and governmental organizations to promote equity and resilience within food systems, particularly focusing on the experiences of marginalized populations including Black, immigrant, and Indigenous communities. Edge is also interested in innovative strategies that enhance community self-determination and food sovereignty while advocating for diverse, resilient food systems across urban and rural environments.
