Biography

Sarah Short is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, holding the Dorothy King Chair. She earned her Ph.D. in Biological Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Sarah’s research primarily investigates the impact of poverty on early childhood brain development. She has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from the National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD) to study the connection between poverty and cognitive processes that influence learning and decision-making in children. Sarah is committed to conducting research that informs the design of effective early interventions. Her recent projects include exploring neural plasticity related to cognitive training in young children and the development of a Parent-Child Mindfulness-Based Training program.
