Dr. Seiji Isotani

Biography

Seiji Isotani's renowned contributions to artificial intelligence in education (AIED) and gamification in learning have advanced the understanding of how people learn through interactive intelligent educational technologies. With over 15 years of experience, he has made significant strides in integrating AI into resource-constrained educational environments, notably through methodologies such as AIED Unplugged. Dr. Isotani's work focuses on designing and implementing public policies to ensure students receive personalized support for meaningful educational experiences. His key accomplishments include pioneering tools and procedures to personalize gamification in educational settings, which are highly regarded for their potential to create accessible and effective learning environments globally. He is the elected President of the International Artificial Intelligence Education Society for the term 2025–2027 and has served as a technical scientific advisor to the Brazilian Ministry of Education, contributing to projects related to educational technologies. Dr. Isotani played a major role in the development of Brazil's K–12 Computer Science Curriculum, influencing educational policies that have impacted 40 million students nationwide. He holds a Ph.D. in Information Engineering from Osaka University, Japan, and completed postdoctoral research at Carnegie Mellon University. Before joining the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Isotani held professorship positions at Harvard University and the University of São Paulo.
