September Russell is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Music Department at the University of Regina, where she specializes in Music Theory and Music History. She completed her Master’s degree in Music Theory at the University of Regina and earned her PhD from the University of Toronto. As a dedicated music educator, she has extensive training and experience in teaching music theory and history, in addition to her role at the Regina Conservatory of Performing Arts. Her dissertation, titled 'Passé recompose: Neoclassical Sonata Form in Interwar France,' examines sonata form in early twentieth-century French chamber works, proposing a system of melodic formal functions for analyzing a wide range of post-tonal music. Current projects include an article exploring melodic formal functions in Francis Poulenc’s use of vocal genres and instrumental works.
