Dr. Shane Gallagher

Biography

Shane Gallagher is a Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing and serves as the Associate Program Director for the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. His research interests focus on evidence-based interventions for substance use disorders and developing a multidisciplinary addiction workforce. Gallagher is a co-investigator on a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) grant-funded, multi-site, randomized implementation trial aimed at examining strategies for engaging patients with opioid use disorder during hospital discharge. He provides technical assistance for practice facilitation to interdisciplinary, hospital-based substance use treatment teams across New York State, contributing to innovative training programs for non-physician clinical trainees entering the addiction workforce. With a decade of experience in patient care within academic medical centers, Gallagher has worked in various roles, including as a registered nurse and psychiatric nurse practitioner, where he developed formal clinical training programs for graduate students. He maintains his clinical practice at Bellevue Hospital, serving patients across the lifespan. Gallagher's academic credentials include a Doctor of Nursing Practice from NYU and both BSN and MSN from Columbia University. He has received multiple awards for his academic and community service contributions, including the Overall Distinguished DNP Graduate Award from NYU in 2021.
