Shannon Holmes is an actor, singer, theatre-maker, director, intimacy director, and educator scholar with expertise in a broad range of dance and theatre vocal methods. Trained in bel canto, Contact Improvisation, and Roy Hart's extended vocal techniques, she is a Certified Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®. Her practice-led research focuses on developing cross-disciplinary methods that disrupt the divisions between speech and singing to empower performers with new tools. Central to her work are autoethnographic performance practices that explore the connections between the lived body and voice, emphasizing self-devising theatre. Holmes has presented at conferences, led workshops, and performed in Canada and Europe, including a self-devised, autobiographical music-theatre piece entitled 'Crook Arm', which garnered attention at various festivals including L'Espace POP and the Royal Shakespeare Company's studio stage. She is involved in interdisciplinary projects, such as 'Temporal Duets', and is a Co-Lead Researcher at the Voice Mapping Lab at the University of Regina. Holmes has also contributed to the academic community through publications and is currently co-editing a special issue on voicework in Canada.
