Biography

In 2023, Sharmin Akter is a doctoral researcher in the Agricultural Economics Policy group at ETH Zurich. Her thesis is part of the embedded Horizon Europe project SUPPORT, focusing on how farmers make decisions regarding the adoption of sustainable crop protection practices. Her research primarily examines Integrated Pest Management (IPM), where she explores alternative, low-pesticide, and pesticide-free non-organic systems within European agriculture. A significant aspect of her study is to understand the decision-making processes of farmers, with particular emphasis on behavioral factors. To achieve this, she collaborates with a large-scale survey group from ETH Zurich that is conducting the SUPPORT project across ten European countries in 2024.
