Biography

Sharon Rose received a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Linguistics from the University of Toronto, a Master of Arts in Linguistics from Université du Québec à Montréal, and a PhD in Linguistics from McGill University. Her main research areas include phonological analysis and descriptive fieldwork focused on African languages, particularly Semitic languages spoken in Ethiopia and Eritrea, as well as Kordofanian languages in Sudan. Her research examines a range of phonological phenomena found in African languages from the perspectives of individual language data, typological frameworks, and theoretical angles. Specific research topics include long-distance phonological phenomena, such as consonant harmony, vowel harmony, dissimilation, and featural affixation. She also investigates the interfaces of tone with intonation, syllable structure, and the order of morphological affixes.
