Biography

Shaula Fiorelli works as an Outreach Officer and Senior Research Associate in the Section of Mathematics at the University of Geneva. After completing her PhD in real enumerative geometry, she shifted her focus to science communication. In 2015, she co-founded Mathscope, a mathematics discovery outreach laboratory within the Swiss university system, where she has been directing outreach initiatives. Fiorelli is also involved in G·EM, a University of Geneva structure dedicated to mathematics outreach. She has participated in numerous public events, including Nuit de la science and Nuit des musées, and has appeared on the RTS show 'L’Oreille des Kids'. She notably initiated exhibitions marking significant anniversaries and exploring the connections between literature and mathematics. Fiorelli has played an important role in educational outreach activities, even performing for 2,500 seventh-grade students in the 'Mystery Mustard Manor' project. Recognized for her expertise in mathematical outreach, she is regularly invited to collaborate on mediation projects and serves as a jury member for Science Stage. Her work includes designing activities for exhibitions, festivals, and school environments, and while she no longer pursues academic research in mathematics, she is active in mathematics education as it relates to outreach.
