Biography

Award-winning Canadian cellist Shauna Rolston considered compelling and unique musical voices on stage, receiving her first cello on her 2nd birthday. Shauna has performed around the world, collaborating with distinguished artists such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Sir Andrew Davis, Robert Spano, Marin Alsop, Keith Lockhart, and many others. She has performed in some of the world’s major concert halls including Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall, and was a featured artist at the 1988 Olympics. Praised for her blazing technique and the ability to captivate audiences, Shauna continues to dazzle with her concerts and recordings. Her passion for music has led her to commission and create over 50 new works for cello, collaborating with Canada’s leading composers. She has also premiered works by renowned composers like Gavin Bryars and Mark-Anthony Turnage. In addition to her performance career, Shauna is a devoted educator and is in high demand for guest master classes. Currently, she is a Professor of Cello at the University of Toronto, having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Yale University and a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music. She studied under distinguished cellist and pedagogue Aldo Parisot.
