Biography

Shiladitya Banerjee is an Associate Professor in the School of Physics at Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Syracuse University in 2013 and has a B.Sc. (Honors) in Physics from Chennai Mathematical Institute, India, completed in 2008. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Chicago between 2013 and 2016. His research interests encompass the study of living systems, with a specific focus on cell tissue mechanics, collective cell dynamics, cytoskeletal dynamics, bacterial physiology, and learning adaptation. He has received several prestigious honors and awards including the American Physical Society Early Career Award in Biological Physics in 2024, and he was acknowledged as a Soft Matter Emerging Investigator by Soft Matter journal in 2022. He also received the Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award from NIH in 2021 and served as a Royal Society University Research Fellow in 2018. His contributions to the field of biological physics were recognized with the American Physical Society Prize for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Research in 2014.
