Dr. Shiva Rahmani

Biography

Shiva Rahmani is an Associate Instructional Professor at the University of Chicago, specializing in the German language and pedagogy. She has an extensive background in language education, having completed her M.A. in Germanic Studies at Purdue University and her undergraduate studies in German Literature at Shahid Beheshti University. With a strong focus on curriculum design and the integration of artificial intelligence in language teaching, Rahmani has developed innovative courses and pedagogical practices aimed at enhancing student engagement and intercultural competence. Her research interests include language pedagogy, domain analysis of real-world language use, and the impact of cultural belief systems on language instruction. Rahmani has been actively involved in the promotion of multilingualism and cultural understanding through her teaching and community engagement initiatives. She has also presented nationally and internationally on topics related to AI-enhanced language learning and growth-based assessment. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she coordinates cultural programming for students interested in the German language, fostering a vibrant community at the University of Chicago.
