Biography

Silvia Behrens is a Research Associate in the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Glasgow. She is currently co-leading a project that explores the context, factors, and approaches to educational exclusions and absences, which is part of the 'Children's lives and outcomes' research strand funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) through the Scottish Centre for Administrative Data Research (SCADR). Before joining the University of Glasgow, she completed her PhD in Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde, where she investigated young people's activism in the UK and held a postdoctoral position at the WiSE Centre for Economic Justice at Glasgow Caledonian University. Silvia holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Master's degree in Cultural Studies and is particularly interested in political participation among young people, migrant populations, and the intersection of educational achievements and inequalities. Her professional experience also includes policy research internships with the International Development Committee and the External Affairs Directorate of the Scottish Government. Silvia is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and has taught both undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University.
