Dr. Simon Bastow

Biography

Simon Bastow has over 20 years of experience in applied academic research and teaching in the field of comparative public policy and public management. He is currently an Associate Professor and the MPP Programme Director at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He is affiliated with the Public Policy Group, a think-tank based in the Department of Government at LSE. His current research focuses on large public sector systems in the UK and their capacity to cope with long-term stress, including sectors such as prisons, emergency health services, immigration, asylum, defense capability, and welfare administration. He has published a book on the UK prison system and co-authored work on the impact of social science research. His research interests include public sector modernization, value for money research, digital era governance, chronic capacity stress, and the impacts of social science research.
