Dr. Simon Milligan

Biography

Simon Milligan is a lecturer at the University of Bern in the School of Biomedical and Precision Engineering. He teaches scientific writing and has extensive experience in academic language editing and writing coaching across a range of disciplines including medical research, neurosciences, psychology, computer science, mechanical engineering, chemistry, and applied mathematics. Simon obtained his PhD from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland in 2006 and later attained a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching English for Specific Purposes from Macquarie University in Australia in 2010. He has developed writing courses tailored to the specific needs of various fields. With over 20 years of experience, he is also the owner of Academic Language Services GmbH, founded in 2018, and is a member of the European Association of Science Editors. His research interests include the use of large language models in writing, genre analysis, contrastive rhetoric, and the use of authentic materials in teaching and learning writing assessment.
