Biography

Sinéad O'Flanagan is a Senior Lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management with research interests in leadership, socioeconomic sustainability, organizational transformation, and systems thinking. She advises on sustainable business policy strategy and executive leadership development and has co-designed MIT’s flagship action learning course, the Leadership Lab (L-Lab), since 2008. O'Flanagan integrates field-based project work with theoretical coursework, fostering collaborative projects that tackle complex global issues through stakeholder engagement and experiential practice. With extensive experience advising organizations worldwide on socioeconomic sustainability, her research focuses on leadership learning experiences in environments characterized by uncertainty. O'Flanagan also employs systems-thinking pedagogies to enhance learning outcomes for individuals by encouraging critical examination of habitual practices. Previously, she held executive management roles in Silicon Valley and London, focusing on major organizational transformations. She currently serves on the board of Ireland’s Higher Education Authority (HEA). O'Flanagan holds a PhD in strategy and management from the Norwegian School of Economics, an MS in management technology from MIT Sloan, and a BSc (Hons.) in applied physics from the National University of Ireland, Galway.
