Sofia Murhem is an Associate Professor of Economic History at Uppsala University. Her primary research areas include market integration regulations, second-hand retail, pawnbroking, and consumption credits from the 18th century onwards. She has written extensively on church endowments and the role of institutional creditors in financing development in Sweden, particularly focusing on pawn-broking systems and the changes brought about by auctions in society during the 18th and 19th centuries. Her research also examines labor market employment and the regulatory frameworks surrounding European integration, industrial relations, and the dialogue within the social sector, particularly relating to small and medium-sized enterprises. Sofia is currently involved in several ongoing research projects, including one that investigates the decline of markets and the associated economic regulations and social transformations in Sweden from 1700-1900. She has received funding from the Jan Wallander and Tom Hedelius Foundation and the Swedish Research Council for her various projects, which also explore gender perspectives in emerging European industrial relations and forgotten consumption practices.
