Dr. Sok Ying Liaw

Biography

Sok Ying Liaw is a distinguished leader in nursing education and has been pivotal in establishing the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS) since 2006. She has received numerous prestigious awards for her contributions to education, including the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Digital Education Award in 2022 and the NUHS Research Educator Award consecutively in 2021 and 2022. As of July 2023, she serves as the Head of the Department at the Alice Lee Centre, fostering a culture of teamwork and driving innovative educational initiatives aimed at enhancing the clinical competencies of nursing students. Professor Liaw has significantly influenced nursing education through her active involvement in implementing the SIMulated Professional Learning Environment (SIMPLE), which is designed to facilitate the transition of final-year students into clinical practice. Her research focuses on patient safety, interprofessional collaboration, and experiential learning, using simulation-based approaches to improve educational outcomes. She has also contributed to the development of simulation-based educational programs that emphasize patient safety and collaborate across disciplines—earning international research accolades in her field.
