Biography

Sonia de Laforcade is an Assistant Professor at Radboud University, specializing in Modern and Contemporary Art. Her research focuses on pedagogical and curatorial practices, especially in relation to Latin America and the Global South. She is currently working on a book that critically examines the work of art critic Frederico Morais and aims to rethink the history of art history and criticism by challenging unclassifiable practices that have emerged outside traditional academic centers. This book stems from her dissertation, which received the Jane Faggen Ph.D. Dissertation Prize from Princeton University in 2021. Her recent work expands on the concept of contemporary artists experimenting with pedagogy. Sonia also serves as a co-organizer of the Fiber Research Circle, which is designed as an open platform for interdisciplinary thinking modeled after craft circles. Her research has been supported by various fellowships and grants, including a year-long postdoctoral fellowship at the Getty Research Institute. Before her current position, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Oregon and obtained her PhD from Princeton University.
