Biography

Sophie Jané is an Assistant Professor in the Management Section of the Department of Business Administration at Umeå University. Her research focuses on how individuals navigate and make sense of challenging organizational situations and contexts, particularly in relation to trauma. Her published work explores the impact of trauma within organizational settings and currently investigates how members of occupational communities deal with value dilemmas and client interactions. She is also developing a conceptual paper that examines how individuals withdraw from organizational inclusion initiatives. Currently, she co-leads a research project on leadership and leader identity within the Swedish Police, supported by funding from the Swedish Research Council. Previously, her research received funding from the National Science Foundation in the United States. She employs qualitative research methods including interviews, participant observation, and fieldwork, and utilizes conceptual frameworks such as performance theory and care theory to derive new insights on various topics. In addition to her research, Sophie teaches subjects such as leadership, international business, project management, and diversity and inclusion, and supervises students at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.
