Distinguished American tenor Stanford Olsen joined the faculty of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater & Dance over 15 years ago. A holder of the Shelfer Eminent Scholar Music chair, his career spans more than 30 years with over 1,200 performances across five continents. His professional operatic debut was in 1986 at the Metropolitan Opera, where he has performed leading tenor roles in operas by Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, and Bellini. Olsen also has a strong concert presence, having performed with major orchestras worldwide, including the Berlin Philharmoniker and the New York Philharmonic. His New York recital debut in 1989 featured Schubert's Die Schöne Müllerin, and he is a sought-after recitalist, especially for works by Schubert, Wolf, and Britten. Olsen graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Utah and holds an artist diploma from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. He has received multiple awards, including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and is a four-time GRAMMY nominee.
