Biography

Stefan Johansson is an Associate Professor at the University of Gothenburg's Department of Education and Special Education since 2019. His research focuses on quantitative methods in educational research, particularly utilizing international large-scale assessments and register data to analyze the influence of formal teacher competence on student achievement. Johansson investigates the validity of educational assessments, including the alignment between PISA test scores and national test results, and the moderating role of student motivation. He is a member of the OECD’s Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) Questionnaire Expert Group, serves on the editorial board of the journal Intelligence, and co-edits Educational Assessment, Evaluation and Accountability. He also reviews research proposals for the Swedish Research Council. In his teaching, he supervises doctoral students and teaches courses on educational assessment, evaluation, measurement quality, and statistics, with a focus on the implications of assessment context in learning equity.
